Wow - looks pretty intense! Great variation in camera angles, makes it look really professional. I can't wait to see the finished product!

The acting from the girls in the beginning was poor.
The actors made the characters look like that they knew where to go and it looked fake.
They acted like they knew that there was a camera there.
The guy trying to get into the barn had the right tempo, but there was something missing.
I liked how he was trying to get into the first door, but the second one lacked realism.
The brown leather gloved hand sticking out of the door was predictable and expected.
I liked the girl standing in the middle of the road, but when she ran off opposed to walking or disappearing, I lost interest in her mystery.
The editing was better than you had before. I hope the set gets better.
The grass was too pretty to be convincing of ascary.
If the Independent Filmmaker’s Coalition of Kansas City gave a good response, then they are easy to entertain.
The film is a great effort, there are just a lot of flaws, and it is very amateur.
I didn't like the music, it doesn't seem right
I am curious to know why you are filming a story that has been done many times before. there is not as much to be scared of in a repeated story, unless you are making this film for people who have not seen a scary movie before.

the basic elements are there. Smarter editing could make the talent look much better than they do now. Visually, the film should look however it is intended. But the director and post-production coordinator should really have a solid plan of what type asthetics and pace that the film should take. Right now, these relatively small issues actually have a huge impact on the production value.
Example: Cut-ups of the SUV driver seem dragged out and redundant to the talent's previous actions... correction?: cut the redundancy actions (head shaking, etc.) out and leave the cut shorter. Remember that people's attention spans in this modern age are "bite sized".
Example: Color scemes seem to be very saturated and give an opposite impression of what may be intended... Correction: Use after effects to make the asthetics of the scenes influence how you want the audience to feel.
These are all just small thoughts that are a matter of opinion more than anything... if the intention of the filmmaker is to achieve the opposite of what I'm suggesting, then that is how it should be. The beauty of what we do in filmmaking is in the nature of the art. There is no wrong or right way to do it. Just YOUR way... thanks and I'll be looking forward to a response and seeing more.

I liked the edit. It does seem rough, but I hope that'll be ironed out. I can't wait for it to be finished and come out. I'm a big horror movie fan, and have been told this one isn't like any other, and so far, I'm seeing that. I also heard you shot 3 different endings and didn't tell anyone which one your using? I wonder what comes next...

Lookin good. The only bit of creative criticism I could come up with would be the color. (and I know this is a rough cut and hasn't gone completely through post so you could prove everything I say moot) Everything is so darn vivid and pretty. Come to think of it, that's an odd thing to say in way of a criticism. But, I think it would be more effective though if you either wash out the color(ie texas chainsaw) or darken it up a bit(ie texas chainsaw). Again, probably way to early to point that out but I did it. And yes I referenced the same movie for opposite examples.

VERY nice, I am excited to see the final cut. I think you guys are getting some great feedback. I think this being your first movie, and the way you are going about getting the hype for it out there, is going to go a long way in proving you guys "Film Makers" and not just some shmoes out there with a camcorder.

Agreed on the in truck scene, it was redundant. Watching it a third time and fourth time, I think maybe cutting the part where you are watching him through the mirror down about 3 seconds. Or when you cut back to him after glancing at the girls. Cut him in at 28-29 seconds.

In hearing Kody and Lexy talk about it, I know some of the plans you have for the color in the movie, so I wont comment. Then again, I know nothing about making movies. Just watching them. LOL But that was the one thing that stuck out at me too. But FANTASTIC job. I am stoked to see the finished product.

I really liked the video. Just one question. Do you have some better audio when Mike says, "Caleb that's her!" and gets out of the car? To me it sounds a little softer than all the other dialogue.
  • Michael Frazier · 6 months ago
Also, at the beginning of the scene with the abandoned house, when Mike walks behind the trees, you can't see his face, and it's like that for a few seconds.

I plead the fifth on who told me, although you'll figure it out when I tell you how I know. I'm related to a cast member, here in MO, and they told me. They didn't tell me it was confidential, and I apologize for leaking it, feel free to delete my comment. It does make me happy when even the cast is surprised by the ending thought, so even they can't be like 'oh, so and so dies at the end.' Cause that makes me all upset. I'm in Osage Beach, MO, for the record. Once again, sorry about leaking that!!!

I think it's looking good so far. I'm really really excited. Although I do agree with what Jake from July 4th said.. The shots of Allison and Whitney may need to be shorter if not cut completely.. At least, that's how I think it would look better.

Do you have more footage of the terrain from that day? It's be great to see some of the area where they are through the eyes of one of them. For example, when Whitney did look around briefly, it would have been cool to see a distance of some kind. Although I, of course, am not sure exactly what you're going for. All opinions here. Also, the color is really pretty, and I could see that as a negative or a positive.. However, I do think because successful scary movies are tough to make, you need to have as many scary compliments in the film as you can get.

Can't wait to see it when it's finished! !

I think this looks exactly how i presumed it would look....fake and trashy. it basically looked like a small child recorded it with their i-phone. the acting is basically awful, and i wonder why that one girl didnt even bother to brush her hair for the film. everything just looks thrown together without any thought of how it would look on screen. im going to be thrilled to see the end result it will probably be the best comical film this year!

not bad but not much there either to give much of a critique. like seeing the chic in the mirror run off. creepy. I agree the second shaking of the door looked contrived and might want to consider scaling back the soundtrack a bit as well. looking forward to more..

    Wow,
Who's that Katey McDoucheNozzle fellow who commented above?

    Anyways,
I know you guys have mentioned scoring that is going to be done. How much input are you going to have over the style of music and the kind of instruments used? I always consider the music to be significantly important, and am just curious how much collaboration there will be with it.

He there. I have to say that I personally have seen very few local films that are even worth sitting through. I believe you've have the potential to make a pretty worthwhile film. The lighting (color correction if any) was great along with the cinematography and framing. I also like that you narrowed the depth of field in the rear view mirror shot, it was probably the best shot section of the clip. I have to say I laughed at the end when he says "where the fuck is she?" after they been walking around nonchalantly. The scene with the man and the glove was not very intense of moving for me either. I think you're creative enough add more suspense. After all though it is just a "rough cut". I would like to see the finished thing but I will probably forget to see what happens with this film :). Good Luck

i want to see another clip....maybe one with me in it..lol

Sorry about the Wobbly Cam. My new stand reacts to any movement on my desk and that translates to the camera.

Hey guys. I think I saw some rougher cuts of those scenes, and I gotta say at first I thought there was too much running, with the barn door, and the glove hand scene? The second scene where the two guys are in the abandoned house (sorry I don't really know names), there seems to be way too much musical "excitement" about shorter guy who doesn't know tools almost falling into the floor. It seemed a bit overdone, unless he's falling into a pile of intestines. Overall, I think the look is much better than what I saw in the beginning, but I got some sneak peeks before. In any case, I'm much impressed with the improvement, thus far. Great job guys, from your #1 Supporter!!!!

wow...I just reread my comment and it doesn't really make sense, there. With the first scene, I thought there was too much running, but it's way better now. I think that the first part of what I said was the only confusing part. I am friends with you, Anthony Thompson, and your lovely wife. I've met Jerry White. I'm just a friend supporting a friend. :) Keep up the good work!!

Just gotta say how excited I am to see this finished.. Please, let's get together soon (all of us!) and talk about the film or something. Are you open to that? I know a lot of us still feel really attached to the process (because of this website of course! :) ...)

This rough throw together looks clean and the timing of each cut is really nice (except for one shot of Allison that lingered a bit long. again, I don't care for the shot anyway because it seems weird in continuity.)

You guys showed some really neat shots that I didn't even know you got during filming! Pleasantly surprising..! Thanks for showing us these little bits, although I know you guys are holding back the real goods... (obviously, why wouldn't you?)

I think it's a good idea to hold close the input of people close to the film. There are several sets of positive, helpful eyes..so don't be discouraged by people who purposely trash this process just to get you down. That's just not classy. Mostly everyone on here is able to critique without being an asshole, but there's always that one or two.

    Some thangz:

Could you use the audio of Michael F. when he says "Fuck you!" but switch the visual to the other Mike or both of them or something? It would enhance the performance of both of them. Although, I don't think it's bad how it is at all, I just wonder what it would look like a different way.

Do you have a better shot of me trying to open the second door? At first I thought it was alright, but at least two other people think it looks "contrived" (and I have to be honest, the second door was always weird to me.. I think I needed a bigger running start for that one.. lol.)

I think you should scrap the "where the fuck is she line?" if you plan to use that sequence of them looking through the house (which I think is cool. Get really creative with the editing though if you can.)

You guys are really talented. There are a LOT of people that are excited to see the film!

    Love,
    me

I agree with Jacob, we should all get together soon.
